The Oakville Arts Council held the inaugural “red carpet” fundraising event on Thursday, June 11, 2009.  The event was created to celebrate, entertain and award local artists in the disciplines of Literary Arts; Media Arts; Performing Arts; and Visual Arts.  Four local artists won $500 and were recognized on stage in front of their peers, civic and  business leaders in our community.

We were thrilled to have local legends, Susan Aglukark and Prakash John (a bass guitarist who has played with Alice Cooper, James Brown and the Blues Brothers) as a part of the evenings entertainment.  Prakash performed with his son Jordan John and Al Cross.  We welcomed the Oakville Children’s Choir, as well as young musician, Annie Zhou, from Canadian Music Competitions.  Local actors Virginia McEwen, Pamela Keyes and Dina Dametto took the stage, while dancers, Lisa and Christine Brkich from InMotion Dance West helped guide our sponsors throughout the evening.  Danny Deakin was our talented, young Host, who lead us smoothly through the show.

In addition to the fantastic entertainment, were the excellent finalist film clips, created by Sheridan Media Arts students Stephanie Korski and Michael Rilstone.  Styled like the Oscars, these film clips helped educate the audience about the talented array of artists who reside and work in Oakville.
